Thanksgiving: Thursday, November 24 (2016)

Key Designs: Turkey, pumpkin pie, fall leaves, fall beer

Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate the blessings of the previous year and the harvest of the season. Celebrations include enjoying fall beer, pumpkin flavored treats like lattes and pumpkin pies, and a festive Thanksgiving dinner, including the center of traditional meals- turkey!

Advertising tip: Use your designs twice: Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in early October!

Hanukkah: Saturday, December 24 (2016)-Sunday, January 1 (2017)

Key designs: dreidel, menorah, Star of David, Hanukkah gelt

Hanukkah–also known as the Feast of Dedication and the Festival of Lights–is a Jewish holiday lasting eight days and nights. The holiday celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, and is a time to gather in observance with family and loved ones.

There are many symbols representing the occasion. Children play with Dreidels–a spinning toy with four sides, and receive chocolate disguised as money called Hanukkah gelt as a sign of gratitude for the holiday. The candles of the menorah signify the days of Hanukkah (the ninth holder lights the other candles).

Design tip: Use popular Hanukkah symbols and bright colors to help attract younger audiences to your ads!

Christmas Eve: December 24
Christmas Day: December 25

Key designs: mistletoe, gingerbread man, gifts, Santa Claus

Christmas is one of the most popular holidays in the United States. In addition to the religious origins of the holiday, many traditions have risen from the cultural appeal of Christmas. Kissing under mistletoe, enjoying seasonal foods like gingerbread men and eggnog, exchanging gifts among friends and loved ones, and Christmas stories featuring Santa Claus, snowmen, and reindeer bring the season to life each year.

Advertising tip: Internet traffic increases exponentially the weeks leading up to Christmas, but the same is true for the day after Christmas! After-Christmas sales are a huge opportunity to give a discount or promo to eager shoppers looking for post-holiday savings.

Kwanzaa: December 26-January 1, 2017

Key designs: mishumaa saba (seven candles), kikombe cha umoja (unity cup), zawadi (gifts), mazao (crops)

Kwanzaa is a festival that is often overlooked. Celebrated annually by 2-5 million, Kwanzaa is observed primarily by African Americans in the United States as a celebration of African culture. The festival was created as a way to celebrate community, culture, and family- which are represented in Kwanzaa’s symbols and philosophy.

Advertising tip: Discover a new niche market! Tap into a new community by creating designs that celebrate the symbols and values of Kwanzaa.

New Year’s Eve: December 31
New Years Day: January 1

Key designs: fireworks, party hats, champagne glasses, Baby New Year

New Year’s Day is another popular holiday in the United States. The evening of New Year’s Eve is celebrated with music and entertainment until the last few seconds of the year, which is introduced with fireworks, champagne, kisses, and the traditional song, Auld Lang Syne (Long, Long Ago).
